About Julio Matta

My journey into songwriting and production didn’t begin in a studio; it began in the real world. Through years in military service, global experiences, and my work in civil and human rights, I encountered people, cultures, and stories that shaped both my life and sound.

Music became the place where those experience found rhythm, voice, and emotional truth.

The Julio Matta Project is where music, lived experience, and creative purpose meet.

A Life in Service & Sound

During my years stationed in Germany, I performed across Europe with my first band, the Matta 8 Soul Show Bandplaying for U.S. troops by day and in cities across multiple countries by night.

Those experiences exposed me to diverse audiences, musicians, and musical traditions that continue to shape my sound today.

Where Experience Became Expression

Before stepping fully into music, I spent years in active-duty military service, followed by a career as a federal investigator working in civil rights and human rights advocacy.

Those experiences — the people I met, the cultures I encountered, and the situations I lived through — taught me discipline, empathy, and the power of listening.

Today, those same qualities guide my creative process. Every song I write carries pieces of that history — resilience, reflection, and the belief that art can open doors to understanding without preaching or demanding. It simply invites.

A Sound Without Borders

What began as a personal outlet has grown into a creative project rooted in collaboration, storytelling, and global connection.

The Julio Matta Project is built through shared voices — musicians and producers from across Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States, each bringing their own culture, sound, and perspective.

Together, these collaborations have shaped a growing, multicultural creative community.

The vision is to continue building a global network of artists — creating music that connects across borders and finds its place in film, television, and beyond.
